Pattern to Print: Textile Design Workshop with Shayla Johnson
Learn Pattern and Screen Printing to Make a One-of-a-Kind Item
Time & Location
Sep 19, 2026, 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
D'ARTILLERY L3C, 9528 Joseph Campau Ave, Hamtramck, MI 48212, USA
About the event
D'Artillery, in partnership with Scarlet Crane Creations, presents "Pattern to Print," a two-hour introduction to textile design through repeat patterns and stencil-based screen printing. Led by printmaker and surface designer Shayla Johnson, this workshop explores how motifs are developed, structured, and used as a visual language on everyday objects.
During the session, you will design an original motif, build it into a repeating pattern, and prepare a screen to transfer your artwork onto fabric. This hands-on process offers a unique look at how ideas move from initial concept to beautifully printed fabric for garments, décor, and accessories.
Guest are welcome to bring a cotton, linen, or bamboo apparel to personalize, or simply use the materials provided. You will leave with a one-of-a-kind printed item and a deeper appreciation for how textile design shapes both our environment and our wardrobes. No prior experience is required.
