Art in Motion

This event is a multi-discipline, multi-artist installation that merges art, fashion, and dance across three floors in innovative and immersive reinterpretations of the traditional gallery experience.  By incorporating dance, vinyl soundscapes, innovative fashion, and art that leaps off the wall into a multi-floor, sensory experience, this event seeks to showcase the versatility and diversity of the Detroit creative community.  The collaborating artists seek to tear open the intersections of their respective disciplines by merging wearable art, dynamic dance, musical performances, and live mural painting alongside traditional gallery exhibitions.   The event will begin in the alley space directly in front of the venue. This lounge area will include food trucks, comfortable seating and beverages. As patrons enter the ADA Accessible first floor of District5Detroit they will be greeted with a welcome area, food table, full bar, visual art installation by Pauly M. Everett, a live DJ, and Vertical Ambition’s breakdancers. The dancers will be showcasing clothing with Pauly Everett’s fabric designs which fashion designer Kristen DeRyck translated into wearable art garments, handsewn in Detroit. These moving visual works bring the canvases off the wall and into the crowd turning the entire space into an immersive, “breathing” gallery. Special DJ tracks will accompany the dancers’ performance as art in motion with the audience encouraged to join in with their own kinesthetic interpretive responses.  The second floor will have another visual art exhibition that will serve as a quieter, meditative experience for neurodivergent and sound-sensitive audiences.  The third floor rooftop venue will feature views of Eastern Market’s quintessential Riopelle Street. Enjoy a live DJ accompanying a live mural painting by Pauly Everett.  All ages and cultures across the Detroit community, from families to emerging artists and patrons are encouraged to attend.

Visual artist Pauly M. Everett will serve as Creative Director and install gallery exhibitions and complete a live mural painting.

District 5 is in the heart of Eastern Market. It is an industrial event space with three floors and a rooftop. A truly unique space to host any event from weddings, engagement parties to birthday parties, any private or corporate event, big or small.
